Adventure Gone Wrong Essay Example for Free

Adventure Gone Wrong Essay When I was a child there was nothing more I loved then creating an adventure within my own backyard and mind. I pretended to navigate through the woods as Sacajawea did when she traveled thousands of miles with the expedition of Lewis and Clark. My favorite adventures included abandon hunting shacks or forts in the woods. I would use these forts as shelter and create my own town around them. The best forts were always the oldest and most decapitated ones, the ones that looked like they been there for several decades. I would conjure up different stories to what type of people and the uses of the abandon places I would find. As it was no surprise that I loved the outdoors, my father never thought twice about allowing me to discover a new journey in the woods. It was the middle of December and I had just finished breakfast and decided to go for a morning walk with my father’s dog Smokey. Smokey loved the outdoors just as much or even more than I did, she was a great companion accompany me along my journey. The morning was bright but cold as the sun glistened off the white blanket of snow. The snowflakes were big and fluffy, ideal for catch on my tongue. As Smokey and I ran down the narrow path into the woods our foot prints slowly disappeared as the snow fell. I never thought twice about how we would find our way back. All I was concerned with was finding a new and exciting spot to explore. Although my concerns suddenly changed when Smokey decided to run ahead of me and cross the small stream in which followed the back property line of my fathers. As I called for Smokey to come back I contemplated following her or head back in hopes she would follow. To my surprise as I turned the other way, Smokey had her own adventure in mind and had no intention with staying with me. I followed Smokey over the stream further into the woods. I began hearing gun shots in the distance. I look behind me in hopes to see my own tracks to head back home, but to my disappointment the snow was falling quicker and had covered my footprints with a fresh blanket of snow. I continue to search for Smokey calling her name, I heard the fear creeping up in my voice as I began to realize I was Antone lost alone in the woods. I walked in the direction I thought we came from to find and old abandon trailer. This finding would have been exciting but this time I was frighten even more, with the windows boarded up and a small fire pit near by, I began to think I wasn’t the only one the in the woods. At this point I began to panic and started to cry as most girls at ten would. I stopped and listen for any noise and once I composed myself I could hear the traffic from the road. I thought this was my best chance of finding my way home. I headed towards the sound of the traffic praying I was headed in the right direction. I continued walking till I hit a neighbors backyard. The decision was made, I had no other choice but to ask the neighbor where I was at that point. A man answered the door as I stood there eyes watering, nose sniffling and rosy checks from the cold I simply asked â€Å"can you help me? The man let me in and his wife came to the door, she was very concerned as it was clear I’ve been out for some time. I told them where I was staying and he thankfully knew my father and agreed to take me back just down the road. The truck ride back to my fathers couldn’t have been more than ten minutes but I felt I was hours away from his place. As I arrived I saw Smokey running to the truck to greet me, as if she was wondering where I had been all this time. I was so happy to be back and able to thaw out by the fire. I would have to say this adventure was one I would never forget and completely thankful for the neighbors hospitality.

Isadora Duncans New Dance Essay -- Essays Papers

Isadora Duncan's New Dance At the end of the 19th century, ballet was the most prominent form of dance. However, to Isadora Duncan, "ballet was the old order that needed to be overthrown, an embodied symbol of all that was wrong with oversymbolized 19th century living" (Daly 26). Duncan believed that the over-technical, over-standardization of ballet was not what dance should be about. Her vision of dance was one of emotions, ideas, social betterment, and the complete involvement of the body, mind, and soul (26). With these ideas in mind, she began to create a new form of dance; what she referred to as the "new dance" (23), and what is now known as modern dance. In creating this new dance, she was inspired by composers such as Beethoven, Nietzsche, and Wagner, writers like Walt Whitman, scientists Darwin and Haeckel, her Irish grandmother, and ancient Greek culture, as well as the spirit of America and its people (Duncan 48, 54). It was a combination of these influences that helped her to create the most expressive, soulful dance known today. Isadora Duncan was born in 1878 in San Francisco, CA. Her mother believed it was exceedingly important to surround Isadora and her siblings with art, music, Shakespeare, and poetry. This was Isadora's awakening to the arts (Terry 9). She trained in ballet as a young girl and was exposed to Delsartean principles that influenced her greatly later in life (12). In 1896, Isadora and her mother traveled to Chicago to further Isadora’s budding career. While there, she met Augustin Daly who then took her to New York and gave her roles in theater productions such as A Midsummer Night's Dream where she was first recognized by the press (25). While in New York she trained with ball... ...imed to suggest a particular character rather than an ideal type" (Daly 132). Duncan wrote extensively about dance, society, and art. She was part of the "lyrical left," a group of people who tried to spur cultural and political change. They "sought to fuse life and art, the personal and the political" (181). This political involvement and social criticism was especially evident towards the end of her career, whereas earlier in her career she focused more on issues having to deal with dance and children (179). Duncan had many beliefs on society, art, and the government, which she made sure to express clearly to her patrons. Overall, Isadora Duncan was an amazing and revolutionary person. She discovered intense emotions and a strong spirituality within herself, within her soul. She transformed her discoveries into a dance in order to share it with the world.

Value Alignment: The Pepsi Company

Organizations need strategic planning to have better possibilities in achieving success. Part of creating a strategic plan that fit an organization is aligning its values with what the organization wants to accomplish and how is achieve. In this paper, Learning Team B uses the Pepsi Company as the organization of topic. Team B will discuss the evolution of personal values as well as the values at the workplace. Also the paper includes how the values of each individual affects actions and behaviors, the alignment of the Pepsi Company values with its plans and actions, and how our values as a team can be reflective in the Pepsi Company.Coke and Pepsi In a family setting, parents teach their children to value certain things whether it is physical or mental. You are taught the difference between what is right and what is wrong. To value something is to determine its worth or regard, such as a life or money and in business, the products and services rendered to the customers. Value expresses what is important to a person. Throughout life people use what they have learned in an effort to shape their communities, schools as well as social organizations creating an environment that has high hopes for a better way of living. Because of the amount of time people spend in the workplace, they should be responsible for setting the tone for the type of behavior displayed throughout the organization. Oftentimes, organizations are held responsible for setting the legal, moral, and ethical codes for the workplace when the employees determine how they will behave. Developing codes of business values and ethics are increasing in businesses and professional associations to ensure ethical standards are consistent throughout the business industry (Pearce & Robinson, 2009). Personal and workplace values should in many ways be the same. A person should value and display the same type of behavior in his personal and business lifestyles. The positive reputation a person demonstrates personally should be displayed as well in the professional arena. Businesses should value their customers, investors, and workers because these are the individuals who help grow organization and keep it competitive in its product market. Everyone has personal values. Those values can be very influential in their actions and behaviors. Some personal values can be excellence, improvement, credibility, individuality, responsibility, respect, loyalty, empathy, courage, wisdom, security, teamwork, and empowerment. There are many other personal values that can drive a person’s actions. Values can have an impact on how an individual make decisions, how he works, how someone reacts to problems, and what products he buys or uses. The Pepsi Company states, â€Å"Our Values & Philosophy are a reflection of the socially and environmentally responsible company we aspire to be. They are the foundation for every business decision we make† (PepsiCo, 2012). Pepsi makes it clear that their values reflectt their decision making. This is how individuals are as well. When a person has the values of loyalty, and respect he will be the type that will buy or use products from whom he knows are fair. This is what many companies strive to find within its customers. Knowing the customers values can be very helpful to a company. Pepsi Company alignment balances it values and its plans and actions. The Pepsi mission statement states â€Å"Our mission is to be the world’s premier consumer Products Company focused on convenient foods and beverages. We seek to produce financial rewards to investors as we provide opportunities for growth and enrichment to our employees, our business partners and the communities in which we operate. And in everything we do, we strive for honesty, fairness and integrity† (PepsiCo Inc. , 2012). As for the Pepsi vision statement states â€Å"PepsiCo responsibility is to continually improve all aspects of the world in which we operate environment, social, economic – creating a better tomorrow than today. † Because Pepsi has designed this statement for their company they stand behind it by offering tasting food nd beverage to its customers all over the world. Pepsi offers a great product but also its offer great opportunities for it employees, business owners, and the rest of the community. In order for Pepsi to meet these values and plans they put in place the guiding principles for their company as well. These six guiding principles are †¢ Care for our customers, our consumers, and the world we live in. †¢ Sell only products we can be proud of. †¢ Speak with truth and candor. †¢ Balance short term and long term. †¢ Win with diversity and inclusion. Respect others and succeed together. ( PepsiCo, 2012) Each of these principles is what makes Pepsi what it is today. Logistics and operations are core to PepsiCo’s success (PepsiCo. , 2012). Employees who share backgrounds, such as a military fit well at PepsiCo, a merit and performance based company with a focus on leadership and teams (PepsiCo Inc. 2012). Chad, one of our teammates can relate with that statement. Because of his prior service it speaks to him because he was a leader in the Army, and he has a level of respect for a company like PepsiCo. At the same time PepsiCo realizes that people are its greatest asset (Durkin, 2012). It is important to us that our personal and workplace values be closely connected to those of the company we work for. The values that PepsiCo strives for are the same values that were ingrained for Chad as a member of the United States Army. It is satisfying to work for a company whose values are aligned with those of an individual. Though our values are aligned, it is most imperative that those values are upheld in PepsiCo’s plans and actions and not just in their words or statements. PepsiCo must ensure to have leaders who hold individuals accountable to the values of the company. Individuals values can determine how actions will be perform. Values show how an individual personality is through his behavior. The Pepsi Company is one of the best in the beverage industry. Its products are popular but also the company values are exceptional. The Pepsi Company provides a great balance between its values, and the impact that causes to its employees and the community. All those are factors that support the creation of a strategic plan effective for the organization. References Durkin, Tom (2012). Profiles of PepsiCo JMO. I believe that â€Å"Stranger in a Strange Land† left it’s mark on western culture. In fact this novel was referred to as the bible of the sixties. (Angelo 2002) The novel is a story about a man that was raised by Martians and then brought back to earth in his early twenties. This is an incredibly unique situation that allows the reader to re-experience what it is to be human from a different perspective. â€Å"Stranger in a Strange Land† was enormously popular and quite risquà © when it was published in 1961. At the time it was published it’s social critique, religious diversity and unique views of gender relationships and human sexuality caused quite a stir. Interestingly enough, even the publisher of the novel ordered it to be cut by 70,000 some odd words so that it might be deemed socially acceptable.
